Big and Small Improvement Projects to Improve Your Home

Spending more time in our homes gave us a chance to recenter our priorities and reconnect with our closest loved ones. And while we’ve indulged in as much Netflix as our brains can handle, there are also plenty of productive things we can be doing. For instance, remember all of those household tasks you’ve been meaning to tackle since 2017? If you’re wanting to use your time well and improve your home, consider these big and small projects courtesy of Arizona Real Estate News & Views.

Boost Home Safety

When it comes to your home, safety comes first. Look for any minor repairs on your property that could make the property safer and more secure. This means fixing any broken steps, missing/broken tiles, loose electrical wires, and anything else that could be a hazard. Also, make sure you have adequate lighting in your home (especially around staircases), and check all your smoke detectors and replace them if necessary. And if you don’t have a quality home security system, now would be a great time to install one.

Another way to boost the safety of your home is to put in a backup generator. You never know when your power will go out. It could be caused by a natural disaster, bad weather, a vehicle running into a utility pole, or any other number of factors. But being prepared with a generator will allow you and your family to have electricity until the power is back on.

Make Minor Improvements

Once you’ve made the necessary repairs to ensure your household’s safety, move on to any minor issues that need to be addressed. This could include cosmetic fixes like patching a small hole in the drywall, touching up/repainting a room, or changing out light fixtures.

If the walls are looking a little drab or worse for wear, you can give them a burst of style without having to pick up a paintbrush. For example, self-adhesive vinyl wallpaper comes in an array of modern designs, allowing you to easily transform a dull space into an area you can enjoy. In addition to being durable, self-adhesive wallpaper is removable, which makes it easy to correct any mistakes — or completely change up the design you had in mind!

Of course, there are countless minor improvements you can make to a home, but you can focus on the ones that have been nagging you for a while.

Knock Out the Mundane Maintenance

There are plenty of home maintenance tasks that are meant to be done regularly but that, for most homeowners, are hard to remember to do as often as you’re supposed to. Take this opportunity to knock these tasks out. This might include changing all your air filters, cleaning your air-conditioning coils and refrigerator coils, and cleaning your washing machine filter and dryer vent.

Clean Everywhere

Start your cleaning by decluttering. Go through all your belongings, room by room, and determine what to keep. For anything you don’t need, decide whether you want to sell, donate, or toss it.

While you have your items out in the open in each room, it might be the perfect time to deep-clean the space. Make sure you have all the cleaning supplies you need, and thoroughly dust, wipe down, vacuum, and mop the area. Once you’ve cleaned each area, take the opportunity to organize your belongings, whether it’s reorganizing your closet, rearranging the furniture, or tidying up the entryway.

There’s nothing wrong with relaxing while you’re at home. But sooner or later, everyone wants to do something a little more productive. Consider the projects mentioned here to make the most of your time and improve your home. When you’re done, your home may be in the best shape it’s ever been in!
